New Graphic Novel Merges Action-Packed Space Western with Social Commentary and Sass

In his upcoming Kickstarter campaign, writer and career illustrator Luther Mosher
debuts his first graphic novel, ‘Mars Lightning.’ In a tale of pirates, politics, pushy
parents, and teen angst, this book wrestles with family, poverty, and loss while
maintaining a wry grin.
Mars Lightning follows two stubborn teenagers, Varisha and Charlie, as they struggle to work together to save Charlie’s kid brother and themselves from captivity by ruthless pirates.
While this story is brimming with action and humor, Mars doesn’t dumb things down for its younger
audience or shy away from grappling with both timely and timeless issues.

“....Charlie has all of the Marty McFly spunk with the banter and wit of a Marvel movie in its heyday. The dialogue is snappy, the action is heated, and Luke really paints an interesting vision of what society and its issues could look like in a Martian lens. If you’re looking for a fun sci-fi with a coming of age feel, teenage heroes, political intrigue, and fast paced spaceship chasing sequences this is DEFINITELY a comic you’ll want to sit down and chow through.
Mars Lightning is a 138-page softcover book and will be available in digital and print for backers of the Kickstarter campaign running from June 26th through July 24th, 2025.
Luther Mosher holds a BFA in Comics and Illustration from NYC’s School of Visual Arts. Since graduating in 2010, he has worked professionally as a graphic designer and illustrator. As an artist, he has created storyboards for film, drawn children’s books, and illustrated cover art for Ben Folds Five.
